"I got a call from someone who said they were from the "local police" and part of a safer neighbourhood initiative focused on protecting children from cybercrime. They told me they were working with local schools, but then incorrectly named the nearest school to me, which raised concerns. They also said local headteachers were involved and that my "sponsorship" would help me become accredited to their campaignβsupposedly showing the community that I support children's online safety and antiβbullying efforts. The caller then wanted Β£325 + VAT to "support" three local schools, or Β£195 for one school. He said that, as a restaurant, local businesses like mine were needed to take part. While he had done some background research on my business, it wasn't accurate enough to seem legitimate."
